Record a match

Record players, decks, games, winners, and result details for a match in Chronicles.

Last updated

Before you start

Recording a match requires a playgroup, at least two players, and a deck for each player. For a registered player, Deckonomicon saves the published deck version, not the mutable working deck.

You can record a match by itself or attach it to an ongoing duel. If you attach the match to a duel, the duel and format are used as context for the record.

When someone at the table is not a Deckonomicon user, or a player has no published deck yet, use placeholders instead. See Record a match with placeholder players and decks.

Record the match

Use Record match in Chronicles to create the record.

  1. Open Chronicles records.
  2. Start a new match, or open Record match directly.
  3. Choose the Playgroup.
  4. Choose a Duel, or keep No duel.
  5. Choose the Format when the match is not locked to a duel.
  6. Choose Best of 1, 3, or 5.
  7. Select add a player until every seat is filled.
  8. On each player tile, select the player and select Pick deck to choose a published deck.
  9. For each tracked game, set the winner and result details.
  10. Select Save match.

Replace a placeholder deck from an existing match

Open an existing match in edit mode. A real player who is using a placeholder deck sees Replace placeholder on their own participant tile; the playgroup admin sees it on every eligible real-player tile. A placeholder participant must first be replaced with a real player before its deck assignment can be replaced.

Choose one of that player's public or shared decks. Deckonomicon always uses its latest published immutable version, requires the same match format, and never offers private decks, unpublished working copies, historical versions, or another player's deck.

Review the exact preview before continuing. A player can update the current match or all of their own matches. A playgroup admin can also update every real-player assignment in the playgroup, including assignments where the selected deck is borrowed by another pilot.

Bulk scopes include soft-deleted match history. Assignments that still belong to placeholder users are skipped. Different WUBRG color sets produce a warning, but do not block replacement.

The final confirmation repeats the scope, affected active and soft-deleted matches, skipped assignments, color warning, and cleanup result. Replacement cannot be undone. When no persisted match participant references the source placeholder afterward, Deckonomicon deletes it automatically; otherwise it is retained.

  1. Open the saved match and enter edit mode.
  2. Select Replace placeholder beneath the deck colors and commander details.
  3. Search the player's eligible decks by deck, commander, or companion and select one.
  4. Choose Current match, All matches for the player, or—if you are the playgroup admin—All playgroup matches.
  5. Review the preview, select Continue, then confirm the irreversible operation.

Result

Deckonomicon saves the match under the selected playgroup. Each participant is linked to the deck they played, and each tracked game records the winner and result details.

If the match belongs to a duel, it contributes to that duel history in Chronicles records.

Troubleshooting

If a player has no available deck in the picker, that player needs a non-private deck with a published version, or you can create a placeholder deck. See Record a match with placeholder players and decks.

If Save match is disabled, check that every player has a deck and every tracked game has a winner.
