Help FAQs

Frequently asked questions about using Deckonomicon.

Deck Import

Does importing a deck publish it automatically?

No. Deck import creates an editable deck record in Brewing, but it does not publish a deck version.

Review the imported cards first, then publish a version when the list is ready for match tracking.

Collection Import

What happens when a collection import has invalid lines?

Collection import can either stop before saving anything or skip invalid lines and save the valid records.

Use Stop and import nothing when you want an all-or-nothing import. Use Skip invalid lines when you want Deckonomicon to report the rejected lines after saving the valid ones.

Collection Export

Can I export only part of my collection?

Yes. Collection export uses the current search, filters, sort, and grouping in Archiving.

Clear search and filters before exporting if you want a full collection file.

Which collection export format should I use?

Use CSV when you want a spreadsheet-friendly file or a detailed local record. Use Custom when you want a plain text list controlled by a custom line format.

For Custom, $q $n exports quantity and card name. Add tokens such as $s, $cn, $l, $f, $c, and $acquired_at when you need more detail.

Deck Visibility

What do Public, Shared, and Private deck visibility mean?

Public decks can be shown to everyone, including in public deck search and player profile pages linked from Profile.

Shared decks are visible to users with the deck link. Private decks are visible only to you in Brewing.

Publishing

Does publishing a deck make it public?

No. Publishing a deck version does not change deck visibility.

Publishing records the current list as a stable version. Visibility still controls whether the deck is Private, Shared, or Public.

Why publish a private or shared deck?

Publish a private or shared deck when you want a stable decklist version without exposing it publicly.

Published versions help track deck changes over time and let match records point to the exact list that was played.

Playgroups

How do playgroups affect match records?

Playgroups define which players can be selected together in Chronicles records.

A match is saved under one playgroup, and only accepted members of that playgroup can be selected for that record.

Duels

Who can I challenge to a duel?

You can challenge another accepted member of the selected playgroup.

You cannot challenge yourself. Players with pending invitations are not available for duels until they accept and become playgroup members.

Match Tracking

What matches can I track?

You can track matches played inside a playgroup, either as standalone records or as part of an ongoing duel.

A match can be best of 1, 3, or 5. Each tracked game needs a winner and can include result details such as turn and reason.

What do I need before tracking a match?

You need an account, a playgroup, at least two selected players, and a published deck for each player.

The selected decks must be visible to match tracking. Private decks from other players are not available in the match deck picker.

How do I record a match for someone who is not a Deckonomicon user?

Use a placeholder participant. In Record match, open the player menu on a tile and select Create placeholder participant to add a named stand-in.

Placeholder participants belong to the selected playgroup and can be reused in later records. See Record a match with placeholder players and decks.

Can I record a match when a player has no published deck?

Yes. Create a placeholder deck from the deck picker to record the deck name, colors, and commander without a full decklist.

A placeholder deck satisfies the deck requirement now. Replace it with a published deck version later. See Record a match with placeholder players and decks.
